This is a new collaborative project I've been working on with accordionist Gary Daley First performed as a live electroacoustic set as part of the 'Millions of Us' and 'Now You Hear Her' festivals in April and then subsequently streamed as part of the Australasian Computer Music Conference.
The piece is an ambient work which explores the often inaudible textural sounds of the piano accordion to create an immersive and multi layered sound world. The lines between electronics and acoustics are intentionally blurred with the intent to fully enmesh and integrate the properties of both instruments. Further to this, the use of gestural control seeks to play the electronics like an acoustic instrument, an ever present theme in Fiona Hill's compositional practice.
